LO1 - InDesign introduction

One thing i do like about the magazine cover is the layout of the page, it is extremely easy to read the page as the text is not small and allows the reader to read each sub-heading and its description.

Key terms

Desktop publishing program - A program that can be used to layout print based products

Contents page conventions

A title which says contents at the top of the page with a mast head of the magazine next to it. The reason for this is to reinforce the brand.

There are also subheadings on the contents page, one common being the features sub heading which shows whats being covered in the magazine, another is the cover story sub heading this is the main article that was advertised on the cover, another is the regulars sub heading these are the articles that are covered in every issue, the news sub heading is where the magazine will cover news related to there brand or genre.

Page numbers, these are used like an index this is so you can find information easily in the magazine and they are always in ascending order.

Images, these are usual used in junction with the main story often the text is anchored to the image to make it visually pleasing.

Editors section, brief summary of whats going to be in the magazine with a picture of the editor aswell as a signature to give their stamp of approval.

Colours will match the house style of the magazine. This is because they reinforce the house style and genre of the magazine.

Columns are used to separate the different headings from one another.

Dialog box is a box that appears and gives you main options on how to configure your magazine

Gutter is the space between the columns

White space is where there is empty space

The purpose of this task was to get us familiar with the layout of a contents page so that when we pastiche our own magazine we are familiar with things such as gutter.
