LO2 - Legal and ethical

1. IPSO
IPSO is the Independent Press Standards Organisation. They do the same as the BBFC for movies or PEGI for games. They are the regulatory for editors which make magazines or newspapers, they deal with issues such as harassment, discrimination and privacy that may be in any magazines or newspapers. They use the editors code of practice, this includes accuracy, 'invasion of privacy, intrusion into grief  or shock and harassment'

For my magazine i will adhere to this law by making sure i do not invade anyones personal information in my interviews with an upcoming actor in sheffield. I will also not persist in asking any involuntary questions and not pursuing any answers. I must identify myself and who i represent when i enter a non-public space such as a football ground or a shop.

2.Obscene publications act
Making sure magazines dont publish anything that could be seen as obscene to your target audience (nudity, explicit language, language, depiction of drugs and use of alcohol)

My audience is males and females aged from around 16-50 who live in the sheffield area. From similar magazines i have looked at they could be influenced by the many gigs that are usually featured in their magazines so they could be influenced by things at the gigs such as the music or alcohol.

I will adhere to this law by firstly not using explicit language in my interview and not allowing the interviewee to use any explicit language. When i am photographing any locations i will make sure not to photograph any explicit items such as alcohol or drugs that could influence a teen age audience.


3. Libel law
You are not allowed to publish false information about a person or publish untrue information

I will adhere to this law by making sure in my interview i do not publish any false information or even misread or mishere any information and then publish any untrue information about the actors career or lifestyle. I will also not publish false information about some of the locations that i may be photographing such as the winter gardens or bramall lane.


4.Copyright
It is the protection of a producers intellectual property. In order for another party to use this intellectual property would have to get permissions from the owner e.g Logos, Organisations, Photographs

I will make sure to get permissions for any photos taken in non-public areas or if i use a company logo i will talk to a representative of the company about getting permissions to use it in my magazine.  For my own photos i will not need permissions for them as i took them myself. For my masthead font i will be using a copyright free font so i will not need permission for it.


5. Laws of contempt
You cannot publish content that would pose a risk to the justice in proceedings. It also prevents magazines from publishing that is too sensationalist about a criminal case.

 The magazine i am making will be a local magazine, but i will adhere to this law by making sure i do not report on any court proceedings and not say anything that could change the outcome of a proceeding.
